Any form of masterpiece derived from the very being of a person just fascinates me. This is not only to justify how he had done it, but it expands up to the deepest thinking of the person seeing it. These matters provokes the normal person to interpret what he or she sees hear and feel, whether this is in the form of writing, visual arts and music, people tend to find and make their own opinion regarding the matter.
Recently, an art exhibit was presented by Tence Ruiz at the D.L. Umali building. The showcase of various art forms was indeed intriguing and very disturbing if one would be taking it in the context of purpose and meaning. This article would tackle a two way interpretation of the art that was created by this man. This article would tackle both technical and artistic presentation and; the message conveyed by these things.
According to the recent lecture on the elements of visual arts, lines, shapes, shade, texture and value are the components of a masterpiece. The pieces that were shown in the exhibit were generally dark in shading, this may be because of the political issues and social issues the artist wants to convey in the time he did his art works. The darker shading was also used to emphasize some points like the stress on the oldness of the people in some of the paining and the prominence of light in the digital art that was inspired by the last supper. Shapes that were used were more untraditional and innovative. Deviating from the basic shapes but using the basic shapes as the baseline for the innovative shapes. The shapes also gave weight to the story of each artwork. Some artworks on the other hand are more emphasize by the texture used by the artist, especially in the case of the modern sculptures like the piece that looked like a bag composed of undergarments. The piece became very rough looking because of the protruding form of the underwear used thus creating a tough looking exterior and form.
Value of the paintings was the most important element I considered in looking for the beauty of each artwork. The purpose and meaning that governed them was more of the political and social understanding of the artist regarding our country and even a global scope. Some of the pieces had their dates when they were conceived and made. One of them struck me of the idea of the political matter in the Marcos regime in the 1980’s decade. The painting has only two shadowy figures; one was a man lying on his back and an animal meat hanging on top of the man. This strikes my political consciousness in that decade. The emptiness of the meat hanging represented the political service that the government of President Marcos was giving the people. Very much dead and empty only serving themselves and mayhem may also be conceived by the people because of the man below the meat. Also the oppression by the government of the people can also be thought from the painting.
The exhibit was very thought provoking and very much stressing the political issues. The pieces are very much a deviation from the usual classical painting, digital art and sculpture that I see in movies and galleries alike. But though this is so, an innovative presentation gave a big bang in exhibits beauty and message conveyed.
